It all started on
December 23, our 3rd wedding anniversary. We had planned on taking
a trip to the Opry Land Hotel in Nashville, TN, but due to predicted icey
conditions, we decided to just stay at home this year. Luckily, Tony's
Dad and Stepmom, John and Evelyn, were down from Ohio for the holidays and they gladly watched Tyler for the evening.
We decided to go to an early movie and then to dinner. We went at around 4:00 pm and watched Water Boy, which was very funny. When the movie was over we were both craving steak! So we headed out for Princeton's, a restaurant in Decatur with excellent steaks. On the drive over there we noticed that the town was kind of quiet. It hadn't started to ice over yet, so we were wondering where everyone was. Well, we finally made it to the restaurant, and they were closed. So we went to our second choice, Ruby Tuesday's, they were closed! So we went to our third choice, Red Lobster! They were closed too!! We couldn't believe it. There isn't very many restaurants in Decatur and the few that they have, were closed. So we took one last chance and went to Applebee's, and they were open. Never thought I would be so happy to eat at Applebee's. We went in and finally decided to just eat at the bar, and there we found out from the bartender that there was only three servers and two cooks working. So, we ordered something light and hoped for the best. I have to say, the bartender did an excellent job. I know she had to of had about 10 or more tables at one time and she kept up with everyone of us. After eating, we decided to just go on home, seeing that the whole town was basically shut down anyway. We talked some of our friends into coming over for a little bit to play games and whatever. Well, about half an hour after they arrived our power went off. They decided they better head on home and we decided to just stay there, assuming the power would come back on sometime in the night. WRONG!! We woke up to a very cold house and nothing to eat! Thank goodness Tyler was at Tony's aunt and uncle's house with his grandparents. But we soon found out, that she was out of power also, and everyone was huddled around her gas fireplace keeping warm. Tony and I decided to go over there to get warm and atleast spend time with the family. We stayed there all day, hoping that our power would come back on sometime that day. We gave up hoping around 7:00 pm and decided to get a hotel room so Tyler would have a warm place to sleep. WRONG again! Our heater in our room went out twice, which we were not too happy about, seeing that we were paying for this, and that was the main reason we got the room in the first place! We woke up Christmas morning, pretty grumpy, but still hoping for the best. We packed up and headed home, with our fingers crossed. We were going to open presents under our own Christmas tree with or without power! Well, we got to our street and could see our front porch light on! We could hardly control ourselves. Tony's Dad and Stepmom were right behind us with Tyler and we opened the door to a very warm and toasty house. We went straight to the tree and let Tyler open his first Christmas present. So, all turned out well, and we ended up having a very Merry Chirstmas! |
